Omurice is a staple of Japanese home cooking. Children all across Japan have fond memories of this ketchup fried rice omelet, lovingly made by parents and topped with a little ketchup design. At maid cafes in Japan, omurice is also a classic dish and the staff can be asked to draw on the omelet with ketchup. In this class, you’ll learn how to make omurice for yourself! Gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly (the fried rice usually includes chicken but it can be omitted to make the omurice vegetarian), this Omurice Making Class can accommodate most people! It’s a delicious and comforting meal; no wonder omurice is so beloved all across Japan! There are actually two version of omurice these days. The traditional omurice consists of ketchup fried rice wrapped in a thin omelet. But there’s another called “toro-toro” omurice which consists of a very lightly cooked scrambled egg, which is laid over rice. You’ll get to choose which version to make. Meeting Point and Meeting Time
The meeting location is the north exit of Ninomiya Station. Once you leave the north exit, you will see a convenience store called “Mini Stop” across the road. The host will pick you up from the parking lot in front of the shop.
Remarks
While Ninomiya might seem a little out of the way, it’s a perfect stop if you’re on your way to see Mount Fuji or the hot springs of Izu or Hakone!
